A few months ago, we were contacted by the amazingly talented folks over at iHeartMedia (based in right here in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Rockville, Md to be exact) to create a promotional advertisement between their hit program, The Kane Show, and one of their sponsors, Enterprise Rent-a-Car. The video would be played on the big screen at a concert series, but we knew how cool this would be for our own portfolio, so we not only took on the job, but we made sure to throw everything we had at it!
The two biggest challenges were: 1) The on-air personalities are busy. Once they came to the set, they had a maximum of 30 minutes to shoot. Yikes. In Video production terms, this might as well be 5 minutes! This means we had to have everything set and ready to shoot. 2) They needed a same-day turn around on the commercial. Double Yikes. This means that efficiency in shooting and post production was our number one priority.
So we set the camera jib/crane, calibrated cameras, staged equipment and had everything ready to go, but realized we were missing the cool factor…. Let me rewind. This was for the Enterprise Rent-a-Car EXOTIC car division, so we were blessed with a 2017 Corvette Stingray, a Tesla Model S, and a Porsche Panamera to have fun with. So what do we do? We send Brian to the closest oxygen supply store 20 minutes away to pick up a couple pounds of dry ice at 7am. We would use the dry ice to create a nice smoke effect under the cars during our jib shots.
The shoot goes off without a hitch, we knock out the edit in the same day by working late and doing what we need to do, the Kane Show cast was amazing to work with, Kane absolutely knows how to do a proper burnout, and we walked away with yet another happy video production client. Thanks to Jerry for putting his trust in us, and allowing us to have creative control over the visuals!
